What kind of journey is BO-EX?

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

Yes. Bolivia is generally safe for travelers, especially when the journey is well organised. At BO-EX, safety, reliable logistics and in-depth local knowledge are at the heart of the expedition.

No. The expedition does not require a high level of physical fitness. However, a basic level of fitness and a willingness to travel at high altitudes are recommended.

The journey gradually takes you into the high-altitude regions of the Bolivian Andes and reaches its highest point at around 4,900 metres. The two highest overnight stays are at approximately 4,500 metres, with the route designed to allow your body to gradually adapt to the altitude.

The expedition is limited to very small groups of a maximum of four participants. This creates a more personal and flexible travel experience in a small group.

No. BO-EX is not a luxury travel product in the traditional sense. It is a high-quality expedition focused on the experience, landscape and a carefully designed journey.

The expedition takes place in a specially equipped 4×4 vehicle designed for both paved roads and remote regions away from established roads.

The expedition is designed to offer a high level of comfort within the context of an exploration journey. Accommodation is carefully selected and the travel pace is balanced.

Depending on the stage of the journey, travel days generally involve around four to six hours of driving. The route is designed to alternate longer drives with quieter days and periods of rest; at least three locations include two consecutive nights in the same accommodation, providing additional time to relax and recharge.

The journey includes plenty of exploration and also takes you into remote regions, but it is not an extreme adventure. It combines the experience of a genuine expedition with a high level of comfort and careful organisation.

Yes. The expedition offers numerous opportunities for photography, and drones can generally be brought along, provided that applicable regulations are followed. As we travel in a small group, however, we cannot wait indefinitely for equipment to be set up, while also respecting the interests and privacy of all participants.

No. BO-EX is primarily a 4×4 expedition through the Bolivian Andes, exploring remote regions. The most spectacular viewpoints and landscapes are often best experienced by briefly leaving the road. Almost every day offers opportunities for short walks or hikes of around 30 to 90 minutes, which are always optional. Under certain conditions, optional ascents of two 6,000-metre peaks can also be arranged.

You can find more information about the expedition in your personal BO-EX area. You can request access directly through the website using an SMS code – and if you still have any questions, we are of course happy to assist you personally.

Is the itinerary fixed?

The expedition follows a clearly designed route while remaining flexible. Depending on the weather, road conditions or local circumstances, the route may be adjusted.

In some regions of Bolivia, conditions can change quickly. The expedition is planned with alternative routes, allowing us to respond flexibly and adjust the route when necessary.

Weather conditions can change quickly, especially in high-altitude regions. The expedition is designed to respond flexibly to these changes and adjust the route when necessary.

No. Compared to other countries in South America, Bolivia is still visited by significantly fewer international travellers. This is part of what makes the travel experience so special.

Remote regions require proper planning and local knowledge. The expedition is specifically designed to ensure safe and reliable travel in these areas.

Yes. While the main focus of the journey is on landscape and exploration, the expedition also offers authentic cultural experiences in cities and local communities.

Yes. The Salar de Uyuni is a central part of the expedition, and we deliberately spend more time in this unique region than on a typical short visit. The exact experience varies depending on the season and conditions.

There is no single best time to travel for the BO-EX expedition. The journey is generally possible throughout the year, with the experience varying slightly depending on the season – however, the differences are small and the route offers unique impressions in every season.

During the rainy season, water covers the Salar de Uyuni and creates the famous mirror effect. The route may require a little more flexibility during this period, but the landscapes are greener and the changing clouds create a unique atmosphere. During the dry season, the Salar is fully accessible by vehicle, the route allows us to travel into even more remote regions, and the clear skies create ideal conditions for spectacular nights under the stars.

The mirror effect depends on natural conditions. From January to March, the conditions are generally favourable for the mirror effect to occur. During the transitional months of December and April, however, it cannot be guaranteed.

Yes. Laguna Colorada and Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve are an integral part of the expedition and among the most impressive regions of the journey. We experience not only the well-known highlights, but also explore numerous remote lagoons and landscapes away from the classic tourist routes.

Yes. The expedition takes you to one of Bolivia’s most impressive landscape regions, with spectacular volcanic panoramas. A special highlight is a visit to a natural hot spring reserved exclusively for the BO-EX group, where we can relax into the night – surrounded by three impressive 6,000-metre volcanoes and an extraordinary starry sky.

Yes. We spend the final night of the expedition at Lake Titicaca, where we can enjoy our last evening together and watch the sunset in peace, away from the well-known tourist areas. The following morning, we continue to La Paz, where the expedition ultimately comes to an end.
